Cette id\u00e9e a \u00e9t\u00e9 nourrie par la disponibilit\u00e9 d\u2019archives et de quelques interviews brutes de personnalit\u00e9s ayant connu Frantz Fanon. Ces interviews originales n\u2019ayant jamais fait l\u2019objet de diffusions ant\u00e9rieures.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Frantz Fanon<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On sort de la lecture de sa bibliographie avec une r\u00e9elle frustration . La bri\u00e8vet\u00e9 de l\u2019existence de Frantz Fanon et ses accomplissements nous donnent un soup\u00e7on de ce que son \u0153uvre et sa pens\u00e9e auraient pu \u00eatre s\u2019il avait v\u00e9cu\u00a0 quelques ann\u00e9es, quelques d\u00e9cennies de plus.<\/p>\n<p>Comment ne pas regretter ce temps qui a manqu\u00e9 \u00e0 ce visionnaire g\u00e9n\u00e9reux, ce qu\u2019il aurait pu produire. Combien ce regard nous manque aujourd\u2019hui, mais sa clart\u00e9 demeure intacte tout comme la puissance de l\u2019analyse. La pens\u00e9e de Fanon reste omnipr\u00e9sente dans toute son incandescence dans l\u2019actualit\u00e9 des luttes pour la libert\u00e9 et la d\u00e9sali\u00e9nation de l\u2019humanit\u00e9.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"not-resizable\" src=\"https:\/\/2dbdd5116ffa30a49aa8-c03f075f8191fb4e60e74b907071aee8.ssl.cf1.rackcdn.com\/15799033_1478304363.212_funddescription.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100%\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Pr\u00e9sentation du film<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Fanon \u00e9merge de ces t\u00e9moignages comme un \u00eatre vivant sans autre certitude que celles de la d\u00e9sali\u00e9nation et de la libert\u00e9. Loin des id\u00e9es re\u00e7ues, Fanon apparait dans ses dimensions les plus humaines et les plus politiques\u00a0: nuanc\u00e9, radical et mesur\u00e9.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nous avons eu la chance de rencontrer et d\u2019\u00e9changer avec des femmes et des hommes qui ont crois\u00e9 Frantz Fanon, qui ont eu de longues conversations avec lui. Aucun de celles et ceux qui ont eu ces moments de partage avec Fanon n\u2019a oubli\u00e9 l\u2019homme et la passion qui l\u2019habitait.<br \/>\nCes regards humains, sensibles et tr\u00e8s divers esquissent les contours vivants d\u2019une personnalit\u00e9 complexe, riche, nourrie de contradictions mais lucide et l\u2019esprit toujours en \u00e9veil. Ces \u00e9vocations permettent de brosser le portrait d\u2019un homme engag\u00e9, vibrant \u00e0 mille lieues de l\u2019embaumement ou de l\u2019iconification que les hagiographies finissent par produire. \u00ab\u00a0<em>O mon corps, fais de moi toujours un homme qui interroge<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ousmane DAN GALADIMA\u00a0<\/strong>: Membre du mouvement Sawaba au Niger. Que ce soit en Occident o\u00f9 l\u2019approfondissement de la crise g\u00e9n\u00e9rale du capitalisme mondialis\u00e9 lib\u00e8re des forces que l\u2019on croyait rel\u00e9gu\u00e9es dans les poubelles de l\u2019histoire ou dans ce qui se nommait hier le tiers-monde ou des dictatures absurdes ont effac\u00e9s le leg des insurrections lib\u00e9ratrices.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0<em>Le gouvernement national, s\u2019il veut \u00eatre national, doit gouverner par le peuple et pour le peuple, pour les d\u00e9sh\u00e9rit\u00e9s et par les d\u00e9sh\u00e9rit\u00e9s. Aucun leader quelle que soit sa valeur ne peut se substituer \u00e0 la volont\u00e9 populaire et le gouvernement national doit, avant de se pr\u00e9occuper de prestige international, redonner dignit\u00e9 \u00e0 chaque citoyen, meubler les cerveaux, emplir les yeux de choses humaines, d\u00e9velopper un panorama humain parce qu\u2019habit\u00e9 par des hommes conscients et souverains.\u00a0<\/em>\u00bb<br \/>\nCHAPITRE 3 <em>Les Damn\u00e9s de la Terre<\/em>, 1961, r\u00e9\u00e9d., La D\u00e9couverte, 2002<\/p>\n<p>Fanon sans jamais verser dans le dogme ou une th\u00e9orisation rigide apporte un regard toujours novateur sur la jonction des luttes politiques et la d\u00e9sali\u00e9nation des individus.<br \/>\nC\u2019est sans doute \u00e0 ces diff\u00e9rents \u00e9gards que le renouveau de l\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat pour les \u0153uvres de ce grand militant panafricain de la lib\u00e9ration de l\u2019Alg\u00e9rie, ce r\u00e9sistant fran\u00e7ais et ce psychiatre martiniquais. Fanon retrouve toute son originalit\u00e9 dans le contexte des luttes antiracistes et postcoloniales dans un monde ou la contre-r\u00e9volution n\u00e9oconservatrice impose un ordre global sanglant et radicalement in\u00e9galitaire.<br \/>\n\u00ab\u00a0<em>Ne payons pas de tribut \u00e0 l\u2019Europe en cr\u00e9ant des \u00e9tats, des institutions et des soci\u00e9t\u00e9s qui s\u2019en inspirent. L\u2019humanit\u00e9 attend autre chose que cette imitation caricaturale et dans l\u2019ensemble obsc\u00e8ne.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Si nous voulons transformer l\u2019Afrique en une nouvelle Europe, l\u2019Am\u00e9rique en une nouvelle Europe, alors confions \u00e0 des Europ\u00e9ens les destin\u00e9es de nos pays. Ils sauront mieux faire que les mieux dou\u00e9s d\u2019entre nous. Mais si nous voulons que l\u2019humanit\u00e9 avance d\u2019un cran, si nous voulons la porter \u00e0 un niveau diff\u00e9rent de celui o\u00f9 l\u2019Europe l\u2019a manifest\u00e9e, alors il faut inventer, il faut d\u00e9couvrir.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Si nous voulons r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 l\u2019attente de nos peuples, il faut chercher ailleurs qu\u2019en Europe.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Davantage, si nous voulons r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 l\u2019attente des Europ\u00e9ens, il ne faut pas leur renvoyer une image, m\u00eame id\u00e9ale, de leur soci\u00e9t\u00e9 et de leur pens\u00e9e pour lesquelles ils \u00e9prouvent \u00e9pisodiquement une immense naus\u00e9e.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Pour l\u2019Europe, pour nous m\u00eames et pour l\u2019humanit\u00e9, camarade, il faut faire peau neuve, d\u00e9velopper une pens\u00e9e neuve, tenter de mettre sur pied un homme neuf.<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb<br \/>\nConclusion de <em>Les Damn\u00e9s de la Terre<\/em>, 1961, r\u00e9\u00e9d., La D\u00e9couverte, 2002<\/p>\n<p><strong>Etat des lieux\u00a0: les 26 minutes base d\u2019un documentaire plus long<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tenu par des d\u00e9lais r\u00e9duits et sans autre budget qu\u2019une dotation de 5000 euros (dont trois milles euros de la Fondation Frantz Fanon et deux milles du r\u00e9alisateur, une \u00e9bauche de 26 minutes a \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9par\u00e9e pour le 9 d\u00e9cembre 2015 et a \u00e9t\u00e9 projet\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019Institut du Monde Arabe lors de la\u00a0premi\u00e8re journ\u00e9e des Rencontres\u00a0sur Frantz Fanon.<\/p>\n<p>Le parti-pris m\u00e9thodologique a consist\u00e9 \u00e0 pr\u00e9senter les diff\u00e9rents aspects de la vie professionnelle et politique de Fanon uniquement \u00e0 travers le regard de ceux qui l\u2019ont connu au cours des diff\u00e9rentes phases de sa br\u00e8ve existence.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pourquoi cette extension ?<\/strong><br \/>\nR\u00e9alis\u00e9 avec des moyens rudimentaires dans des d\u00e9lais tr\u00e8s r\u00e9duits, ce tr\u00e8s court m\u00e9trage a n\u00e9anmoins rencontr\u00e9 un public int\u00e9ress\u00e9 et qui a exprim\u00e9 une frustration certaine devant la bri\u00e8vet\u00e9 des interventions et du film en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral. Le film a \u00e9t\u00e9 applaudi mais beaucoup de spectateurs ont souhait\u00e9 qu\u2019il soit plus exhaustif.<br \/>\nNous disposons de nombreuses heures d\u2019enregistrement de t\u00e9moins qui ont c\u00f4toy\u00e9 Fanon \u00e0 diff\u00e9rentes \u00e9tapes de sa vie et dans les moments les plus exaltants comme les plus incertains. Enrichir le film pr\u00e9existant en d\u00e9veloppant les aspects les plus r\u00e9v\u00e9lateurs de ces entretiens tout en illustrant les diverses phases historiques contribuerait certainement \u00e0 mieux faire conna\u00eetre l\u2019homme et \u00e0 appr\u00e9hender son \u0153uvre avec davantage de pr\u00e9cision et de profondeur. Soit un documentaire de 52 minutes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pourquoi le financer ?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Trois voyages ont \u00e9t\u00e9 effectu\u00e9s en Alg\u00e9rie, en Tunisie et au Niger afin de r\u00e9aliser interviews, plans de coupe et prises de contacts. Tout cela s\u2019est effectu\u00e9 en auto production par la Fondation Frantz Fanon et le r\u00e9alisateur en fonds personnels.<br \/>\nVotre participation est aujourd\u2019hui sollicit\u00e9e pour la derni\u00e8re ligne droite menant \u00e0 la post-production\u00a0: achats d\u2019images d\u2019archives, montage, \u00e9talonnage, mixage, cr\u00e9ation du Master de diffusion (DCP), \u00e9dition de DVD et support de communication.<\/p>\n<p><strong>D\u00e9tail du budget \u00ab\u00a0Fanon hier, Fanon aujourd\u2019hui : Regards crois\u00e9\u00a0\u00bb de 11 000\u20ac<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2013 L\u2019achat d\u2019images d\u2019archives avec les frais de d\u00e9placements \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tranger compris.<br \/>\n\u2013 Le Montage<br \/>\n\u2013 L\u2019\u00e9talonnage cin\u00e9ma et le mixage son\u00a0: \u00e9tapes indispensables de la post-production. L\u2019\u00e9talonnage consiste \u00e0 r\u00e9gler la luminosit\u00e9 et les couleurs des diff\u00e9rents plans du film et des diff\u00e9rentes cam\u00e9ras pour les harmoniser. Au mixage tous les r\u00e9glages des sons du film ont lieu, afin de les harmoniser. On y incorpore la musique et des sons d\u2019ambiance. Dans les deux cas, cela n\u00e9cessite la location d\u2019une salle \u00e9quip\u00e9e d\u2019un certain type de mat\u00e9riel et le travail de professionnels. Apr\u00e8s un passage \u00e0 l\u2019AFP photo et France soir, il devient photographe Freelance. Il est \u00e9galement formateur en photographie num\u00e9rique et multim\u00e9dias \u00e0 Paris. Il suit l\u2019actualit\u00e9 sociale en France et \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tranger.<br \/>\nEn 2004 il enrichit son exp\u00e9rience de photographe sur le tournage du film \u00abAlg\u00e9rie Tours\/D\u00e9tours\u00bb de Leila Morouche et Oriane Brun, en compagnie de Ren\u00e9 Vautier, l\u2019indomptable cin\u00e9aste anti colonial. Cette exp\u00e9rience sera un tournant photographique. En 2016 il travaille au Niger sur le tournage de la s\u00e9rie \u00abDelou\u00bb en langue hausa en 52 \u00e9pisodes en tant que Directeur de la photo. En 2015 il entame la r\u00e9alisation de son premier documentaire vid\u00e9o sur Frantz Fanon.<\/p>\n<p><strong>LA FONDATION FRANTZ FANON<\/strong><br \/>\nLa Fondation Frantz Fanon entend rester fid\u00e8le aux valeurs et aux formes d\u2019engagement qui ont marqu\u00e9 la vie de Frantz Fanon, \u00e0 sa libert\u00e9 de propos et \u00e0 sa r\u00e9bellion contre le colonialisme sous toutes ses formes. Elle sera \u00e0 son image, multidimensionnelle en \u00e9tant\u00a0:<br \/>\n\u2013 Un lieu de m\u00e9moire, d\u2019archives et d\u2019\u00e9dition<br \/>\n\u2013 Un lieu de rencontre et de r\u00e9flexion<br \/>\n\u2013 Un lieu de partage et de construction de solidarit\u00e9<br \/>\n\u2013 Un lieu de formation, d\u2019\u00e9ducation populaire et d\u2019information<br \/>\n\u2013 Un lieu de r\u00e9sistance et de proposition<\/p>\n<p><strong>FRANTZ FANON EN QUELQUES REP\u00c8RES<\/strong><br \/>\nN\u00e9 en 1926 et mort en 1961, Frantz Fanon n\u2019a v\u00e9cu que 36 ans. Pour beaucoup il est l\u2019homme d\u2019un seul combat universel et de deux livres. Pourtant sa vie tumultueuse est riche de rencontres et de d\u00e9couvertes.<br \/>\nSon engagement, c\u2019est la libert\u00e9 et l\u2019\u00e9mancipation des hommes. Ses deux livres : <em>Peau noire, masques blancs<\/em> \u00e9crit en 1952 et <em>Les damn\u00e9s de la Terre<\/em> \u00e9crit peu de temps avant sa mort en 1961.<\/p>\n<p>C\u2019est l\u2019histoire d\u2019un homme qui tr\u00e8s t\u00f4t se rebelle contre l\u2019injustice. Tr\u00e8s jeune, il refuse le fascisme, quitte sa Martinique natale en 1943 et rejoint les Forces Fran\u00e7aises libres. En combattant le nazisme en Europe il rencontre dans toute sa brutalit\u00e9 le racisme de ceux qu\u2019il croyait lib\u00e9rer. Dans une lettre \u00e0 ses parents il relate sa stup\u00e9faction de d\u00e9couvrir le racisme et l\u2019ingratitude blanche, il avoue avec amertume s\u2019\u00eatre tromp\u00e9 de combat.<\/p>\n<p>En 1947, Fanon entame des \u00e9tudes de m\u00e9decine \u00e0 Lyon. Il fr\u00e9quente \u00e9galement les cours de philosophie \u00e0 l\u2019universit\u00e9. Il se familiarise ainsi avec les d\u00e9bats intellectuels de l\u2019\u00e9poque et rencontre la pens\u00e9e politique et contemporaine, de Marx \u00e0 Merleau-Ponty, de Freud \u00e0 Sartre.<br \/>\nSa th\u00e8se de doctorat devait \u00eatre initialement son \u0153uvre premi\u00e8re, <em>Peau noire, masques blancs<\/em>. Mais au vu du contenu tr\u00e8s peu conventionnel du texte, ses professeurs lui demandent de produire une th\u00e8se plus conforme aux usages de la facult\u00e9. Il s\u2019ex\u00e9cute et obtient ainsi son dipl\u00f4me de m\u00e9decin. <em>Peau noire, masques blancs<\/em> sera publi\u00e9 en 1952 et tant par sa contribution d\u00e9cisive aux d\u00e9bats sur les pathologies du racisme que par un ton novateur, il suscite un int\u00e9r\u00eat que ne s\u2019est jamais d\u00e9menti depuis.<\/p>\n<p>A l\u2019h\u00f4pital de Saint-Alban, il rencontre Fran\u00e7ois Tosquelles, un psychiatre r\u00e9publicain espagnol, qui va l\u2019initier \u00e0 de nouvelles formes de traitement de la folie : la psychoth\u00e9rapie institutionnelle. The idea was nourished by the access to archives and interviews of people who knew Fanon. The following original interviews were never released before.<\/p>\n<p>Frantz Fanon<\/p>\n<p>What comes out after the reading of his biography is really frustrating: the brevity of the existence of Frantz Fanon and his accomplishments give us a hint of what his work and his thoughts could have been if he had lived a few more years, a few more decades.<\/p>\n<p>How not to regret the time that this generous visionary lacked and what he could have produced. How much we miss his view today, even though its clarity remains intact as much as the power of its analysis. The thought of Fanon remains pervasive in all its incandescence in the news of the struggles for freedom and the disalienation of humanity. <em><strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"not-resizable\" src=\"https:\/\/2dbdd5116ffa30a49aa8-c03f075f8191fb4e60e74b907071aee8.ssl.cf1.rackcdn.com\/15799033_1478305116.1506_funddescription.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100%\" \/><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/em><strong>Film introduction<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Fanon emerges from these testimonies as a human being without any other certainty than that of disalienation and freedom. Far from common beliefs, Fanon appears in its most human and political dimensions: nuanced, radical and measured.<\/strong><br \/>\n<em><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/em>We had the chance to meet and share with women and men who met Fanon, who had long conversations with him. None of those who have been sharing these moments with Fanon have forgotten the man and the passion that inhabited him.<\/p>\n<p>These human eyes, sensitive and very diverse sketched the lively outlines of a personality: complex, rich, nourished by contradictions, but lucid, and with a mind always enlightened. He met with Frantz Fanon regularly during their professional activities and they developed a friendship.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"not-resizable\" src=\"https:\/\/2dbdd5116ffa30a49aa8-c03f075f8191fb4e60e74b907071aee8.ssl.cf1.rackcdn.com\/15799033_1478305379.9169_funddescription.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100%\" \/><strong>Arnoldo PALACIOS<\/strong>\u00a0: Colombian activist and writer, he met Fanon during the second Congress of Black Writers and Artists in 1959 in Rome.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why Fanon today ?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Today, Fanon\u2019s analyses about racism, decolonization, and the post-independence evolution of the countries liberated from colonialism, appear in all their relevance; rather it is in Occident where the depth of capitalism\u2019 global crises frees up forces that we thought relegated to the dustbin of history, or rather it is in what we commonly called yesterday \u201cthe third world\u201d, where absurd dictatorships have erased the legacy of freedom insurrections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>The national government, if it wants to be national, ought to be governed by the people and for the people, for the outcasts and by the outcasts. No leader, however valuable he may be, can substitute himself for the popular will; and the national government, before concerning itself about international prestige, ought first to give back their dignity to all citizens, fill their minds and feast their eyes with human things, and create a prospect that is human because conscious and sovereign men dwell therein<\/em>.\u201d<br \/>\n(Chapter 3: <em>The Wretched of the Earth<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p>Fanon, without ever falling into dogmas, or rigid theorization, provides an innovative gaze to the junction between political struggles and individual disalienation. It is most likely from these various perspectives that the renew of interest for the work of this great pan-african activist of the Algerian liberation, this French resistant, and this Martiniquan psychiatrist comes from.<br \/>\nFanon\u2019s originality is found in the context of the antiracist and postcolonial struggles, in a world where the neo-conservative counter-revolution imposes a bloody and radically unequal global order.<br \/>\n\u00ab\u00a0<em>So, comrades, let us not pay tribute to Europe by creating states, institutions, and societies which draw their inspiration from her. <\/em><br \/>\n<em>Humanity is waiting for something from us other than such an imitation, which would be almost an obscene caricature. <\/em><br \/>\n<em>If we want to turn Africa into a new Europe, and America into a new Europe, then let us leave the destiny of our countries to Europeans. They will know how to do it better than the most gifted among us. <\/em><br \/>\n<em>But if we want humanity to advance a step further, if we want to bring it up to a different level than that which Europe has shown it, then we must invent and we must make discoveries. <\/em><br \/>\n<em>If we wish to live up to our people\u2019 expectations, we must seek the response elsewhere than in Europe.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Moreover, if we wish to reply to the expectations of the people of Europe, it is no good sending them back a reflection of their society and their thought with which from time to time they feel immeasurably sickened,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>For Europe, for ourselves, and for humanity, comrades, we must turn over a new leaf, we must work out new concepts, and try to set afoot a new man<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb<br \/>\n(Frantz Fanon in <em>The wretch of the Earth<\/em>, Conclusion)<\/p>\n<p><strong>The 26 minutes basis for a longer documentary :<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Restrained by limited time and with for only budget a 5000 Euros donation (of which 3000 Euros received from the Foundation Frantz Fanon), we\u2019ve created a 26 minutes draft that was presented in Paris, on December 2015, at the Institut Du Monde Arabe during the first days of Fanon\u2019s event.<\/p>\n<p>The methodology bias we chose consisted in presenting different aspects of Fanon\u2019s professional and political life, but only through the eyes of those who knew him during various phases of his short existence.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why this extension ?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Produced with very limited tools and within a very tight deadline, this very short-film nonetheless received the public interest; a public who also expressed a relative frustration in regard to the brevity of the testimonies and of the film in general. The film was applauded and many viewers wished it was more comprehensive.<\/p>\n<p>We have access to numerous hours of recording with witnesses who spent time with Fanon at various moments of his life: some during the most exhilarating times, some during the most uncertain.<\/p>\n<p>We are extending to a 52 minutes documentary so as to enrich the pre-existing film by developing the most revealing aspects of the testimonies and illustrating the diverse historic phases. This would certainly contribute to better know the man and to present his legacy with more depth and precision.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why this funding ?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We made three trips: in Algeria, Tunisia, and Niger in order to do interviews, cutaways, and create contacts. All has been auto-produced with private funds by the Frantz Fanon Foundation and by the film director. Today we ask for your participation for the last straight line before post-production: to buy archival images, for editing, calibration, mixing, the creation of the DCP (Digital Cinema Package), for the edition of the DVD and other communication medium.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Budget detail \u201c Fanon yesterday, Fanon today:<\/strong> <strong>converging views\u201d 11.000Euros<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2013 to buy archival images with the cost to travel abroad included.<br \/>\n\u2013 the Editing.<br \/>\n\u2013 Image Calibration and Sound Mixing: necessary steps in post-production. The calibration consist in adjusting brightness and colors of the various shots of the film from the different cameras in order to harmonize. During the mixing, all sound mixing takes place in order to harmonize as well; we bring music and other ambient sounds. In both cases the work requires to rent a well equipped studio as well as the work of professionals. The foundation will match his multidimensional image in being:<br \/>\n\u2013 A place of memory, archives and edition<br \/>\n\u2013 A place to meet and reflect<br \/>\n\u2013 A place to share and build solidarity<br \/>\n\u2013 A place for training, popular education, and information<br \/>\n\u2013 A place for resistance and proposal<\/p>\n<p><strong>A FEW HIGHLIGHTS FROM FRANTZ FANON\u2019S LIFE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Born in 1926 and died in 1961, Frantz Fanon only lived 36 years. For many he is the man of a single universal struggle and two books; yet his tumultuous life is full of encounters and discoveries.<\/p>\n<p>His commitments were freedom and human emancipation. His two landmark books are: Black Skin, White Masks written in 1952 and The Wretched of the Earth written not too long before his death in 1961.<\/p>\n<p>This is the story of a man who very early rebelled against injustice. At a young age he refused fascism, left his native Martinique in 1943 and joined the Free French Forces. While fighting Nazism in Europe, Fanon met, in all its brutality, the racism of those he believed he was freeing. In a letter to his parents he recounted his amazement discovering white racism and ingratitude. He bitterly admitted that he fought for the wrong struggle.<\/p>\n<p>In 1947, Fanon began studying medicine in Lyon. He also attended philosophy college courses. He became familiar with the intellectual debates of the time and met with the political and the contemporary thoughts from Marx to Merleau-Ponty, from Freud to Sartre.<\/p>\n<p>His doctoral thesis was originally intended to be his first work, Black Skin, White Masks. But given the very unconventional content of the text, his teachers asked him to produce a thesis more consistent with the purpose of the faculty. He complied with the demand and thus obtained his medical degree. Black Skin, White Masks was released in 1952 and both its decisive contribution to the debate on the pathologies of racism and its innovative tone produced an interest that since has never been denied.<\/p>\n<p>At Saint-Alban hospital, Fanon met with Fran\u00e7ois Tosquelles, a Spanish Republican psychiatrist, who introduced new forms of treatment for insanity : institutional psychotherapy. Tosquelles\u2019 teachings contributed to converge Fanon\u2019s political analysis and his practice as a psychiatrist and as a doctor.<\/p>\n<p>In 1953, he requested to be sent to Algeria in Blida-Jointville hospital where he revolutionized the local methods, largely marked by practices inspired by the racial theories of Professor Porot, a sinister memory from the psychiatric school of Algiers . It is in Blida that Fanon met independence activists and joined the Algerian Revolution. After he publicly resigned from his position, he left to Tunis and joined the NFL (National Front of Liberation), and while practicing his profession, he became one of the senior Revolutionary activist and one of the vanguard theoretician of the African liberation.<\/p>\n<p>In 1961, a few days before his death, he published his last book, The Wretched of the Earth, where between ethical commitment and principles of reality, Frantz Fanon composed a hymn to liberation and to human emancipation. Far from any dogma, lucidity and clairvoyance characterize his final work.
